Life at LDM | Attorney Spotlight, Janice M. Thomas
Janice M. Thomas, Partner
What is your definition of success?
The definition of success to me has two parts. First, knowing I have worked hard to give my client the best representation and the best outcome for the case. Second, I have been able to have a successful career while at the same time having a great relationship with my family.
What’s the most unique part about working at LDM?
Everyone in the Firm works together as a team to get the best result for the clients.
What’s one thing — either industry-related or not — you learned in the last month?
In Iowa there is a shortage of court reporters. I recently had a deposition that was transcribed by a voice writer. It was interesting to see how the process worked.
What’s the best advice you can give to someone who is just starting their career?
Work hard and do not be afraid to ask questions. If you have a mentor, take full advantage of the mentor relationship by going to lunch or coffee and bouncing ideas and questions off them. Lastly, read the Rules of Civil Procedure. Many questions are answered in the rules.
What are you currently reading, listening to or binge-watching?
I spent the summer watching the Indiana Fever games with my family. Now we are watching Iowa and Husker football.
